Visionary Shamanics is very happy to present a fresh forest trance compilation. Maya mythology describes serpents as being the vehicles by which celestial bodies, such as the sun and stars, cross the heavens. The shedding of their skin made them a symbol of rebirth and renewal. The Vision Serpent is thought to be the most important of the Maya serpents. It was also often depicted as having two heads or with the spirit of a god or ancestor emerging from its jaws. During Maya bloodletting rituals, participants would experience visions in which they communicated with the ancestors or gods. The primary focus of ritual bloodletting centered on the miracle of visualization using an incense bowl filled with charcoal, copal incense, sacred peyote, and self let blood. The admixture was ignited emitting a smokey plume that was inhaled creating psychotropic intoxication. Because of the DNA link through the blood, ancestors usually appeared in the smokey haze. Conversations were conducted in real time giving profound counsel. Visions were powerful to witness and were practiced for centuries. These visions took the form of a giant serpent which served as a gateway to the spirit realm. The ancestor or god who was being contacted was depicted as emerging from the serpent’s mouth. The vision serpent thus came to be the method in which ancestors or Gods manifested themselves to the Maya. Thus for them, the Vision Serpent was a direct link between the spirit realm of the gods and the physical world.

enjoying the amazing spirit realms view
consisting of fire-bursts and ice-shards
hazy smoke rings and whirling-wild-winds
as the ways of the old are surfacing once again
the Mayans are arriving on a spaceship of lightning
where trees from ancient soils now grow
visioning in the dreaming trance we go
messages from spirit now are sent
dancing with deaths mystery until the end
